In 2023, kudzu coverage in Louisiana, like other states in the South, was a significant issue, with estimates ranging from 2 to 7 million acres of land covered by the vine. Louisiana is among the states with extensive kudzu infestations. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries lists kudzu as one of the exotic invasive species that have invaded terrestrial habitats in the state. Kudzu is known to damage natural vegetation and can have an economic impact.
