In 2023, kudzu coverage in Texas, particularly in East Texas, continued to be a significant issue, with plant experts warning of its prolific growth and potential to smother trees and other vegetation. The vine grows rapidly, sometimes up to 12 inches per day, and can envelop entire groves of trees, eventually killing them.
